Why? Because decision making isn't just about logic. It's about navigating fear, fatigue, and uncertainty. And if you're anything like this woman I used to work with, it's about being the last throat to choke, and that can be scary. So three of the biggest obstacles to making clear, confident, and high quality decisions are what I'm gonna talk about today.
One, there's decision fatigue. Two, fear of failure, and three, the dreaded analysis paralysis. I worked with a leader who prided himself on being thorough. He wanted everything to be airtight, but over time his team got really frustrated. Project stalled, opportunities slipped by and high performers left because they felt stuck in the minutia.
The problem wasn't lack of [:He had more confidence and his team, they finally had the clarity they needed at the right level, at the right time to get some stuff done. Decision fatigue happens when you're making too many decisions without prioritization. We make so many micro decisions on a daily basis that it's easy to get fatigued.
ith you, you can own it, but [:The truth is no decision is perfect. The goal isn't to avoid mistakes, it's to learn fast and adjust. Analysis paralysis is another barrier. This happens when leaders overthink to the point of inaction. Not all decisions require the same level of exhaustive research. The best leaders know how to assess risk and move forward with just enough in information.
The key to decision making confidence. Knowing which decisions need deep scrutiny and which just need forward momentum. Not every single choice is life or death. Some decisions just need to be made so you can keep momentum.
