But leadership? That's a whole different game. Leadership is about letting go of control to inspire and empower people. To step up. And that's where a lot of leaders struggle when they try to make the shift. One of the biggest hurdles? Letting go of being the expert.
When you're managing, you often get rewarded for being the one with the answers. You're the go to person, the problem solver. But as a leader, you're still holding on to that role. You're creating a bottleneck. Teams don't grow when they're waiting for you to tell them what to do all the time. And I'll be honest, it's not easy to step back and say you've got this when your instincts are to jump in and fix things. But transformational leadership is about developing other people's capacity, not just flexing your own.

And then there's shifting from giving directions to painting the vision. As a manager, it's easy to stay in the weeds. Who's doing what? By when? But leadership it's about helping people see the why behind what they're doing. It's about sharing a vision, and that gets people fired up to take ownership.
Not just because they have to, but because they want to.
struggle with stepping back [:Are you trustworthy? Are you consistent? Do people believe in you enough to follow you? When they don't have to, that's influence. And it takes a different mindset than managing tasks in people's time. So yeah, the shift from managing to leading can be messy.
It's uncomfortable at times, but it's also where the magic happens.
When you move from telling people what to do to inspire them to figure things out on their own, that's when you see people grow.
That's when they step up in ways you didn't expect. And honestly, that's the best part of leadership.
